MUSICIANS

Álvaro Iglesias started his musical studies in 1995 in the Consevatorio Mayeusis of Vigo, in the specialty of Contrabass. Some of his teachers are the Lituanian teacher Iminas Kucinscas, Cris Gándara, Camilo Freire and Carlos Méndez (professor in the School of High Musical Studies of Galicia and member of the Real Filarmonía of Galicia). It was member of several musical groups, always in the scope of folk music, like Tres (1994-1996), formed by old components of Matto Congrio, the gaitero Carlos Núñez (1997-1998), with whom collaborated in several national and international concerts during the presentation of its first disc "Irmandade das Estrelas", and Pancho Álvarez (1998), with whom already has made several record works, including its last CD "Nas cordas". At the moment he alternates his job with the bands Faltriqueira (2004) and ARAN (2001) - formations with a great projection within present Galician music- with being a freelance in studio or live with different bands on the national panorama.



 

Harry Price was born in Croydon, a small town near London, in 1972. From 1980 to 1990 he studied classic violin also being able to exert like first violin in several orchestras and quartets. He finished his studies with distinction of degree 8. From 1993 to 1999 he traveled around France, specially Brittany where he played in several bands, specially "Mudzik", with whom he played music of Ireland, Scotland, Russia, Bulgarian, Breton, Bean, etc. In 1999 he traveled to Spain with a gypsy circus called "The Petite Cirque Wedyn", to settle down finally in Galicia (2000) where he formed the band "Uz" with other 4 musicians. With this band he played in festivales like the one of Moeche, Vimianzo, Tapia of Casariego, Festival Celta de Oviedo... and in many places of Galician geography. Also it is a member of the band "Beladona" with which it touched in numerous festivals like the Festival Interceltique de Lorient (France), World-wide Festival of Youth (Panama), Festival Intercelticu de Avilés... In 2001 he formed the trio "MacFéck", with which it recorded a titled album "Dogs & Cats" and another titleholder "Save the Dragoon". 2002 it enters to comprise of "ARAN".



 

Antón Davila was born in Beluso, Pontevedra County, Galicia (Spain) in 1974. He started playing the Galician pipes at the age of 7. When he first played with the pipe band “Novos Ventos”, he toured all over Galicia as well as the great cities in Spain. In 1990 he left the pipe band and he entered the Music School to learn to play the piano. He olso attended some master-classes conducted by well-known pipers. In 1997 he travelled to Dublin to immerse himself in Irish music. During this period he lerned to play the Irish pipes in the headquarters of Na Píobairí Uilleann (The Society of Uilleann Pipers). For the following 2 years he developed and cultivated his Uilleann and Galician piping at many renowed music venues. In March 1998, under the direction of “Les Comediants” (the famous Catalonian company) he was invited to play at the St. Patrick’s Day parade. In August 1998, he was choosen to represent Galicia in the “MacAllan” solo pipes championchip at the Lorient Festival in Brittany. While he olso played with the Simphonic Orchestra of Brittany. In September 1998, he toured with the Irish band “The Big Jigs” in Holland, Denmark and Sweden. In January 1999, he was invited to play at the “Celtic Connections” festival in Glasgow. At the Royal Concert Hall he performed the orchestral piece “L’Epopèe Celtique” by the Scottish composer Eddie McGuire, sharing the stage with more than 160 musicians from Scotland, Brittany, Wales, Ireland and the Isle of Man. In March 1999 while touring in Ireland he was invited by the Cork University to give a master-class on Galician music. In November2000 he performed on a Sardinian International Piping festival, “The Tumbus Festival”. In April 2001 and 2003 he was invited to perform on Shennaghys Jiu festival in the Isle of Man. For the last years he has worked as a regular teacher of Galician pipes for Galician immigrants all over Europe and America, and at present he’s a member of the bands ARAN, Beladona and Celtas Cortos and olso a documentaries soundtrack composer.



 

Xosé Liz begins its musical walking to the 18 anuses touching the flute and the requinta in addition to the gaita galega with the teachers Enrique Otero, Nazario González "Moxenas" and Antón Corral. Since 2003 he is a teacher of Requinta Galega in the Traditional Conservatory of "School of Arts and Oficios of Vigo". He is multi-instrumentalist and it plays the Requinta Galega, Flauta Travesera, Irish Flauta, Tin and Low Wistle, Gaita Galega, Bouzouki, Acoustic guitar. He founded the bands Salterium, Beladona and ARAN. At the moment it participates and it collaborates with the groups: Beladona, Alfolíes, Ardentía, Pancho Alvarez Group, Faltriqueira and ARAN in addition to to have played with musicians as Uxía Senlle (in the presentations of the album "Dance gives Area") or Rodrigo Romaní (with the audio-visual spectacle dedicated to Avilés de Taramancos). He participated in the recording of more than 20 albums, where they emphasize the following titles: "SAntiago Mar de Pedra" (Suso Vahamonde 1997), "Tolemia" (Cristina Pato 1999), "Bicos de Sol" (Beladona 1999), "Susana Seivane" (Susana Seivane 1999), "Danza das Areas" (Uxía 2000), "Spíritu 986" (Spíritu 986 2001), "Tu Sueñas con la Luna" (Blanco 2001), Brañas Folk (2004) and Galéire (ARAN 2004). Between its last projects they emphasize the recording of the Original Sound track of the film "O Lápis do Carpinteiro" directed by Antón Reixa and with Antón Seoane in the musical composition. Suso Alonso studied percussion in the Conservatory of Vigo. It belongs from 1989 to the Band School of Beade (Vigo), where it touches all type of percussions. Under the direction of Ricardo Richy, and with the Young Orchestra of Galicia, it participated in a tour by Latin America and touching in theaters like Colón (Buenos Aires) or the Teresa Carreño (Caracas). From 1993 to 1998 it collaborates with the Classic Orchestra of Vigo, under the baton of Fernando Palacios. Also it comprises of the group of the Band Orchestra of the Communities of Vigo and touches like reinforcement in several bands of the province of Pontevedra. He has been student of the prestigious Gaiteiro "Moxenas" from 1972. It has been from 1992 component of the group of trad music "A Roda". Between 1994-1996 it made several advanced officer training courses with the teacher Antón Corral, courses of battery with Salvador Niebla and a musical course of pedagogía with Fernando Palacios. It has played with the groups Valigai, Arabot and the singer Carmen Dolores. From 1995 he is professor in the Band Escuela of Beade (Vigo). From 2001 it touches with the group ARAN.
